About Ken Fridley

Alvin's Portrait

Who am I?

I am a life-long resident of San Diego and became interested in film photography when I was 13. That was over 30 years ago and I still love the art and science of creating great images which tell compelling stories.

What's my specialty?

I specialize in on-location, natural light photography with special talent for capturing unspoken communication between animals, nature and people. I prefer to take the time and effort required to capture "true" images of my subjects using no or minimal flash techniques. Animals usually react negatively to bright lights and loud sounds so my approach it to blend into the environment and become a welcome visitor to explore. They also tend to move much faster than a person so I've invested in professional grade equipment that can take excellent pictures in low light/fast action scenes.

What else do I do?

Today many people have smart phones or digital "point n' shoot" camera's that can take very good pictures but they may need help in refining the composition, color balance or creative tools to make a fine art print. In these cases I can upload your images to my secure server and I will work with you to edit and refine them until you achieve your artistic vision. You retain full ownership of your final images and will receive the "digital negative" (JPEG) files.

Why work with me?

With over 30 years of photographic experience I know how best to compose, develop and retouch images to deliver true photographic artistry. My desire is not to impose my vision upon you, but to allow your vision to come to life using my unique skill set.

A great photograph is one that fully expresses what one feels, in the deepest sense, about what is being photographed - Ansel Adams
